Movement is part of the foundation of life. It's an essential nutrient. It is no different than air or water in that sense; it is a requirement for health and optimal function of the whole body. Without air to breath, humans will develop serious health problems within a matter of minutes. Not having water to drink also causes problems within the body although, signs of those problems may not show up for days or even weeks, they are no less severe.

A lack of movement whether because of sedentary living or due to restrictions within individual joints is detrimental to our health. It accelerates the degenerative process within the body and robs the brain of an essential nutrient. As with heart disease and other "silent" diseases, symptoms relating to these problems may not show up for months or even years but they are every bit as damaging to our health.

At Wellness Works Chiropractic we understand the importance of movement and the fact that humans have inherited genes that were evolved to support a physically active lifestyle. Having joints that aren't moving properly is no different than leading a sedentary lifestyle in that they are both interpreted as stressors within the body and promote abnormal gene expression. Science has demonstrated that restoring movement normalizes gene expression. At its most basic level, Chiropractic is really about movement. Movement is necessary for the healthy and optimal function of the whole body.
